不諢言,對我來說marketing seth 也是 spiritual seth﹗甫於1/26上市的新書,早在一開年就已經透過搶先讀的方式讓忠實讀者預購,一方面為Acumen Fund籌募基金,二來也用完全顛覆的方式,讓遍佈各地的人可以在他們自己的部落上發表閱讀感想。這裡刊一篇「讓自己有不可或缺的價值、讓事情發生」的專訪(全文)的摘要:

Seth shared some tips to remember when breaking out of the mold and thriving without a map (seth 分享了一些關於突破現狀與如何在沒有指導地圖下工作、事業興盛的技巧:)

1) Don't worry about what other people think. "If you're willing to be laughed at you're way more likely to succeed." (別管別人怎麼想!如果你願意被取笑,你就有更大的可能成功)

2) Living outside your comfort zone isn't a bad thing. "When I feel the fear, I know that I'm doing something right. And if I don't, then I'm probably doing something boring. For me, the fear is a signal that I'm on the right track."(在你的舒適圈外生活不是件壞事。當我感到恐懼,我知道我正在做對的事。當我不覺得恐懼,那麼我可能正做無聊的事。對我來說,恐懼是我正在對的路上的指標)

3) Marketing matters. "Everything is marketing. Marketing is not advertising. Everything you do, the stories you tell, the way you live your life -it's all marketing."(行銷是有關係的。每件事都是行銷。行銷不是廣告。每件你做的事,你說的故事,你生活的方式—這全都是行銷)

4) Do things that are scarce. "Things that are scarce are valuable. And what is scarce is respect, keeping your word and being transparent. What is scarce is originality, creativity and making a difference. What's not scarce is fitting in, doing what you're told and blaming someone else. If you want to create things of value, you should do things that are scarce."(做稀有的事。稀有的東西是有價值的。稀少的是尊重、信守你的承諾與做人透明。稀少的是原創、創意與做得不同。而不稀少的是做和別人一樣的事、做人家叫你做的事和責怪別人。如果你想創造有價值的事,你應該做稀有的事-我想這裡指的是做自己。

5) You don't need anyone's permission. "You probably should stop waiting for permission. If your excuse is, 'My boss won't let me', well of course she won't. Because what you're saying to your boss is, 'I want to do this cool thing and if it fails it's your fault and if it succeeds I get the credit'. Who would give you that deal?" Don't wait for permission- just do it. (你不需要任何人的允許。你可能會因為等待允許而停下來。如果你的藉口是我老闆不讓我做,那麼她當然不會允許。因為你告訴你老闆的是,我想做這件很酷的事,如果失敗了,那是你的錯;如果成功了,功勞是我的。誰給同意這樣的交易?不要等待被允許,去做就對了。)

Seth summarizes with, "Today is a turning point, a once-in-a-lifetime moment in time when you get to make a choice. Every day, people like you are choosing to go down a less well-defined path, one in which they make choices and make a difference. It turns out that not only does this fulfill our potential as workers and citizens; it is also precisely what the marketplace demands. Instead of focusing on complying with management as a long-term strategy for getting more stuff and being more secure, we have a chance to describe a powerful vision for our future and to actually make it happen. This new dream isn't about obedience, it's about vision and engagement." (Seth的結論說,今天就是轉捩點,一個今生錯過就不再的時候讓你去做選擇。每天,像你一樣的人選擇去走一個較少被定義好的路,在這路上他們選擇並做出不同。結果是這麼做不僅實現了我們身為工作者與市民的潛力,這也正是市場所需要的。與其將長期策略專注在順從管理層以得到更多和更有安全感,我們有機會去描述對我們將來有力量的願景並實際地去使它發生。這個新的夢想不是關於服從,而是關於願景與承諾加入。)
